package failed to install/upgrade something. Some dialog popped up. Any info got lost after clicking. I didn't anticipate I would have to log it by myself.

The logs that were automatically attached to your bug report include the following errors:

Processing triggers for gnome-icon-theme (3.10.0-0ubuntu2) ...

(gtk-update-icon-cache-3.0:27256): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: Cannot open pixbuf loader module file '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders.cache': No such file or directory

This likely means that your installation is broken.
Try running the command
  gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders > /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders.cache
to make things work again for the time being.
Setting up update-notifier-common (0.154.1ubuntu2) ...
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader", line 26, in <module>
    import debian.deb822
ImportError: No module named debian.deb822

We have seen this error reported more than once, but it's not reproducible. I know of no way this could happen without a corrupted installation, because update-notifier-common directly depends on python-debian, which contains the debian.deb822 python module. Does the file /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/debian/deb822.py exist on your system? What does the command 'md5sum /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader' return?

Thank you very much, Steve, for your reply.

I acknowledge this error, which I've been trying (failing) to fix
yesterday, using some suggestions found on the web.
I didn't know this report related to it.

I do have a:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4573 Oct 3 09:43
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders.cache

I attach a copy.
I tried to run gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders (after renaming the existing
cache), but failed as the tool is not installed, and I failed to install it.

The file:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 46885 Sep 5 2012
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/debian/deb822.py

does also exist on my system.

Sorry, I missed one reply to a question of yours:

$ md5sum /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader
cc998cb094103c9d59b9ad13494a44cc
 /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader
