Update Notifier icon remains in system tray after update finished

Bug Description
I recently updated my system (via Synaptic) and noticed that afterward, the icon
in my
system tray telling me there were 9 updates remained there. I clicked "show
updates" on the icon and
it told me there were no updates, but it still didn't disappear. It seems like
this icon should disappear when updates are finished.
