Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-manager
Not really an advanced bug, I forgot to close Synaptic prior to doing the dist-upgrade. But maybe it is a good idea if the update-manager checks if there is another update-

Thanks for helping us make Ubuntu better by reporting bugs.
However, starting Synaptic on 7.10, and then launching 'update-manager --dist-upgrade' I get a window saying Unable to get exclusive lock with a suggestion that a package manager is already running.
So it seems fixed now, so I am closing this bug (with Invalid state).
