I uninstalled the clamsmtp and reinstalled and it is working now. The problem must have been just in the upgrade tool.

Which upgrade tool did you use? When I did the upgrade using aptitude dist-upgrade, there were no errors.

The clamsmtp postinst script has multiple places it returns and exit status 2, but they appear to be user, file, and permission related. I expect the problem has to do with the way the upgrade tool is calling the postinst script. I'd like to be able to reassign this to the correct tool.

I upgraded via update-manager following the provided instructions on Ubuntu's website:
Upgrade Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) to Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)

Ubuntu 7.04 is the current development version of the Ubuntu operating system. It is to be released in April 19th 2007.The common name given to this release from the time of its early development was “Feisty Fawn”.

gksu “update-manager -c -d”

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
