Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

In order to perform a commandline based upgrade on a server we need a backport of the update-manager-core package.

I uploaded a backport of this into edgy-proposed now hoping that we can get feedback from server people for edgy for this feature.

Ugh, that's not quite the classical SRU, that's an entirely NEW package. I don't see this package in edgy-proposed either, did you forget to actually upload it?

Since we do not usually add new packages to stable releases, I'd like to have this discussed at the meeting or signede off by Matt. Other than that I'm not too worried about a new package, unless it has any Conflicts:/Replaces:

Hello Martin,

thanks for looking at this sru request. I talked with mdz and he has no objections to the package:

<mvo> pitti asked me that I get a sign-off for https://launchpad.net/bugs/92875 from you or at the meeting. its the release-upgrader for the server. it needs a backported package that can do the fetching/verifying/starting of the upgrade for the server people
<mdz> in principle, we definitely want that to be available for beta
I'll have a look at the bug
<mvo> thanks
<mdz> this involves changing the dependencies of update-manager on desktop systems as well, doesn't it?
<mvo> no, its a independant package
<mdz> oh, ok
in that case I have no problem with it

Source-NEWed, looks good so far. I'll do more scrutinizing on the binary once it's built. I take it you already verified that edgy's update-manager and that new binary package do not conflict at all?

I have tested the update-manager-core package by running 'sudo do-release-upgrade -d' on an Edgy server install. It worked well. One thing that I noticed however was that when I pressed 'd' for details regarding packages being removed I was not returned a new prompt with my available options. I had to scroll backwards in the terminal to see that the previous prompt regarding what to do.

Please, upgrade the documentation http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading according to the fact that one needs edgy-proposed to do the server-upgrade the recommended way.

This is fixed now, the package is in edgy-updates, its possible that not all mirrors are updated yet though.
