Bug Description

ubuntu 11.10 on a home-made desktop. Update Mgr shows gnome-settings-daemon and "Available version: 3.2.2-0ubuntu2.1".

I created a new user, rebooted into new user, but still get same Update failure. Please help!

This usually means your local copy of the .deb is corrupt. Try deleting it and then do the upgrade again:

sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-settings-daemon_3.2.2-0ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade --fix-missing

I performed the commands Dave suggested, rebooted, ran Update Manager, and the errors and lingering gnome-settings-daemon update are gone. I assume problem SOLVED. Ubuntu has an awesome community, with members like Dave Lentz. Have happy holidays Dave, and thanks!

You're welcome. If the issue occurs again, I recommend running memtest.
