Bug Description

When I closed my update manager when it still hadn't finished its updates and reopened it, I got this error.

Could not initialize the package information

An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/dl.google.com_linux_chrome_deb_dists_stable_main_i18n_Translation-en, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

And then I thought I would just reinstall update manager using Ubuntu software centre but the list of software never loaded.

And then I tried Synaptic package manager:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/dl.google.com_linux_chrome_deb_dists_stable_main_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

And then with command line. Tried apt-get update.
Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/dl.google.com_linux_chrome_deb_dists_stable_main_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

And then I restarted my comp hoping that would solve my problem. But, I had installed screenlet, which ran into a problem of its own.

Requirements for the Screenlet are not satisfied! Use the package manager of your system to install required packages.

REQUIREMENTS:

python-numpy ? required, NOT INSTALLED!

Now, my wireless driver is not working as well. I am just using Windows 7 to report the bug as I can't access internet using Ubuntu.

More info:
I am currently using Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04.
I am not sure about update-manager's version but I had already updated all of my softwares about 10 hours ago. (on 3-7-2011 12.00 PM GMT +8)
I was just hoping the update manager would show some new software updates. I closed and reopened because it was taking a while to load.
Instead when I opened it, it came up with a dialog box with the above log.

I was told
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*
sudo apt-get update
will fix them. Will keep you updated about that!
