Binary package hint: update-manager

at first i couldn't install anything from terminal, then tried to do some upgrade to see if it's needed, but it always ended like this. also when i opened update manager folder, it told me to write a bug report with this sentence:

E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/id.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened

being unable to do the installation i really need is annoying. but i couldn't seem to do anything else since the sentence above always came out. please, give me advise on this problem. i am using natty narwhal at the moment, btw.
