Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

upgraded to latest maverick today ... and then directly update-manager -d to natty I see on the terminal:

asac@tinya:~$ sudo update-manager -d
extracting 'natty.tar.gz'
authenticate 'natty.tar.gz' against 'natty.tar.gz.gpg'
WARNING: Failed to read mirror file

this does not seem to break things; at least i am now at the dialog that asks me: "Do you want to start the upgrade now?"

not sure if thats a problem; guess its because natty isn't released yet. Feel free to invalidate. If you need more information ping me on IRC or <email address hidden>. Thanks!

The same problen to me. I can't try the Beta2 of ubuntu 11.04, i've got the same warning when update-manager -d
¿Any solution?.

Maybe there was a mirror temporarily down? Are you both still having the problem?

This isn't a bug. A mirror file was not provided nor is it necessary.

To the average person, 'warning' means they need to be cautious and check something, but this message doesn't give any indication of how to do that.

Saying "this isn't a bug" is the same as saying one has no understanding of how inexperienced users in the real world interpret warning messages. If this message is just casual information for those in the know, it should be labelled in some non-threatening non-worrying way, e.g. 'Information'.

It IS a bug. It's a usability bug.

Sorry if I come over a bit too passionate about this, but I get to see non-geek users of Ubuntu, and this kind of thing scares the BeJeez out of some of them.
