Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

1)
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu Natty (development branch)
Release: 11.04

2)
$ apt-cache policy update-manager
update-manager:
  Installed: 1:0.146.3
  Candidate: 1:0.146.3
  Version table:
 *** 1:0.146.3 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) I clicked "Check" to check for updates, expecting any updated package lists to be fetched.

4) Instead, when clicking "Check" to check for updates, nothing happens except for the window being disabled. After a long while I get a message box telling me the daemon died.
In the terminal I get the following:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/defer/__init__.py", line 472, in _inline_callbacks
    result = gen.throw(result.type, result.value, result.traceback)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/aptdaemon/gtkwidgets.py", line 633, in _run
    yield self._transaction.run()
aptdaemon.errors.AuthorizationFailed: org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.Error.Failed: ('system-bus-name', {'name': ':1.68'}): org.debian.apt.update-cache
