Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

doing a system upgrade, an error popped up and asked me to post all files in /var/log/dist-upgrade

it then said that my system has been left in an unstable state, and that it was going to run a command ( i'm pretty sure it was dpkg --configure -all )

that ran for a short while before locking up. no cpu or disk activity for a few minutes.
force closing it and attempting to run said command on a terminal gave me database area is locked by another process.

i'm posting this before i restart kde in hopes that will unlock the database area.

i can only attach one file at the moment, so i've chosen main.log until i can post the rest later.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add the log files from '/var/log/dist-upgrade/' to this bug report as separate attachments? Thanks in advance.

I kept poking around and found a dpkg process running but doing nothing except spawning many grub-pc related processes. I killed all that, ran sudo upgrade-grub-from-legacy, then I was able to finish the upgrade.

I believe the root of this problem was with the grub-pc package, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/654651
