Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve Ubuntu by opening this ticket.
I've confirmed this problem with a 8.04 Mythbuntu install that I am attempting to upgrade to 10.04 (which of course is still in Beta) via update-manager -d.

Some users have reported that, via synaptic, disabling various software sources and/or third party software resolved the issue for them, but it has not resolved it for me.

I've experienced the same issue and tried to disable the third party repositories, but that hasn't helped either.
Can we have some resolution/work-around to this issue?

 i disabled the third party repositories, and everythig went perfect
the only problem remains that after the upgrade nothing really worked fine, not evem Firefox, so I had to reinstall

I have same problem and receive same errors.
I replaced original Hardy "sources.list" with my current one and tried again but still have that problem
what should I do?

not a synaptic issue. affecting to update-manager
