Bug Description

Today (after release of beta1) I upgraded my netbook (Acer Aspire One 110L) from Karmic to Lucid. Upgrade went smoothly, and after reboot I was offered the login screen. Login was successful, the ubuntu jingle sounded, but then the desktop showed nothing but the empty desktop background. After more reboots and killed Xorg servers, I got at least a desktop, but it is mirrored and flipped! The mouse behaves as usual, and I can move the mouse pointer over any icon, but they do not respond to a mouse click. (Apparently the sensitive area for a mouse response is elsewhere on the screen).

When I login via the Gnome-failsafe option, everything on the screen is where it belongs.

See attached screenshots for logins under Gnome and Gnome-Failsafe

When I login using gnome-failsafe or xterm then no wireless connection is offered (while ifconfig does show that wrireless is present), but the computer is autoconnected to a wireless connection. Bug or "feature"?

When gnome is used for login, both wired and wireless connections are autoconnected. (but not useable due to the mirror-flipped screen)

I had this mirror problem also after updating, on an EEE PC 1005HA. It seems that the update installed the nvidia driver which causes many problems (mirror screen, netbook-launcher crashing). Uninstalling the nvidia driver fixed the problem for me.

oddly enough, debb1046's suggestion did work! Thanks.

I did the following: logged in to failsafe-gnome, with wired connection. Command:
lsmod | grep -i nv
did not give any output.
Under Synaptic I uninstalled all packages (about 7) with names beginning with "nvidia-". Logged out and logged in to Gnome.

Desktop is correct!

affects: ubuntu → update-manager (Ubuntu)
