Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Update manager doesn't automatically show updates, unless I press the "Check" button.
When I open it, it downloads some files and say that I'm up-to-date. After pressing the check button, updates show up and it turns out I wasn't up-to-date.

Distribution: Dapper stable

Why not make check/update the default startup behaviour?

Can there be more then two reasons for starting the update-manager?

1. Check if system is up-to-date.
2. Update system.

Both needs the update/check (apt-get update) first, so please make it the default startup behavior.

It's 2007, who uses dial-up? :)
Or maybe there could be some kind of configuration, like:
[ ] I use dial-up.
[ ] I use broadband.
