Possible confusion between "Update" and "Upgrade"

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I know this is trivial, but as I see it, "Updates" update the Repo/Sources list, whereas "Upgrades" actually add, replace or delete apps/packages.

Therefore shouldn't it be called "Upgrade Manager"?

This could be transparent - leave all the code as it is, just change the wordring text in the dialog box...

Since Maverick is almost ready, wouldn't this be a good time to see if his can be addressed? :)

Thanks for reporting this bug. The confusion between the terms Update and upgrade is also discussed in bug #734026, so I am marking this as a duplicate of that bug. Feel free to comment there. As a summary from there, to have a consistent terminology, it would be best to have update used for updating packages on the same version of the OS, and use upgrades only for distribution upgrades to be able to differentiate between the two actions as the two are very different use-cases, with major differences in the outcome and possible dangers, whereas updates as you are using it (update repo/sources list) does not mean anything by itself, it is only a part of the process, which does not make any sense alone. See the discussion on the other bugs thread for the reasons.
