dist-upgrade crashes saying preparing update failed

Binary package hint: update-manager

The crash is occuring during a Intrepid (Ubuntu 8.10,kde)to Jaunty (beta) upgrade. The thing is I am asked to submit the /var/log/dist-upgrade files, but they appear empty so I'm not sure if this is true bug or just something wrong in my system.

Could you please double check and attach any file that is not empty in /var/log/dist-upgrade ?

Hello, I must have done something wrong the other day. Anyway here are the
files, hope they
are of some help.
