Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I tried to upgrade with update-manager, which told me that 8.10 was available, but when I clicked the button, it showed me the README and then just exits when I click upgrade. On the console it prints:

extracting 'intrepid.tar.gz'
authenticate 'intrepid.tar.gz' against 'intrepid.tar.gz.gpg'

The same happens when I launch 'update-manager --dist-upgrade' on the console.

I was able to upgrade with do-release-upgrade.

Package: update-manager 1:0.93.34
PackageArchitecture: all

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add the log files from '/var/log/dist-upgrade/' to this bug report as separate attachments? But because you've upgraded after the failure there is a small chance to find what have been wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you. The traces are from the successful upgrade and there's no evidence of what has gone wrong in the previous run. We are in a dead end here, and if you agree we'll close this report.
