Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

dist upgrade fails on xubuntu 8.04 to 8.10. Just tells me to report all the log files and that the system could be in a broken state.

Attached are the files found in /var/log/dist-upgrade/

Thanks for your bugreport.

Could you please run:
$ sudo apt-get install -f
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
$ sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

and attach the output of all those operations?

 I suspect this is a false positive caused by network failures on download earlier (that were corrected with a second attempt to download the missing files.

Thanks,
 Michael

Sorry, the machine was really borked, it wouldn't even mount the drive with write permissions. So I went ahead and did the recovery-mode boot. I think I picked the option to recover the packages. dk something maybe. Well now the machine boots into 8.10 like nothing was ever wrong. I didn't do your suggested commands since xubuntu-desktop is clearly installed.
