Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

reported a serious error and exited because of 'invalid package information' with 'ubuntu'minimal' missing when upgrading from ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 using update-manager.

I had the same error while trying to upgrade to Kubuntu 9.10 from Kubuntu 9.04.

I'm attaching main.log from /var/log/dist-udgrade. Let me know if you need anything else.

Affects me with Ubuntu 10.04 64bit during upgrade to 10.10 beta.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for following up on this but in the end the issue was resolved by
upgrading to a later version of Ubuntu (which didn't exhibit the same
bug/issue). I never did get Ubuntu 8.10 to run properly on my (ageing)
Lenovo A31 laptop.
