Try setting the software sources list to the main server instead of the Norway mirrors. This fixed the same issue for a couple upgardes I tried.

THanks for your bugreport.

Are you behind a proxy server?

Nope, no proxy server.

I will test again tonight.

Getting the same error:

W:Failed to fetch
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/intrepid-updates/main/binary-i386/Packages.bz2
Hash Sum mismatch
, W:Failed to fetch
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/intrepid-updates/main/source/Sources.bz2
Hash Sum mismatch
, E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or
old ones used instead.

I _am_ behind a proxy, but can get the files directly.

If you're behind one of these transparent proxies (I experienced that on the Irish "Three" mobile broadband network) you can use the following command:

aptitude update -o Acquire::http::No-Cache=True

I had the same issue when upgrading Intrepid -> Jaunty using the German servers:

W:Failed to fetch http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/universe/source/Sources.bz2 Hash Sum mismatch
, E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Changing to the main servers allowed me to continue, but this isn't really a valid config change that should resolve the issue is it? I don't know what the cause of the problem is with the mirror servers, but if it can't be resolved, could there be a better error message (suggesting that the user change to main repos) when this happens during an upgrade?
