Unable to update to ubuntu Intrepid from Ubuntu Hardy

Hello to everyone, I'm new on this list... :D

I'm trying to upgrade my ubuntu 8.04 hardy to 8.10 Intrepid Ibex throught update-manager -d, and I've just seen a "bug"...

Cannot install «/var/cache/apt/archives/fontconfig-config_2.6.0-1ubuntu2_all.deb»

"L'avanzamento verrà portato avanti, ma il pacchetto «/var/cache/apt/archives/fontconfig-config_2.6.0-1ubuntu2_all.deb» potrebbe non essere funzionante. Segnalare questo problema come bug."

Update manager tells me to report this as a bug!

I don't think this is a bug, but I reported it anyway!

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

I don't understand... The files are those in the ubuntu repository! Under intrepid's directory!

I think are only dependencies problems...

Hello Neo, please attach the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ to this bugreport. Especially /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log is important for us to figure out what exactly went wrong during the upgrade.

ok I'll try to do this in a virtual box upgrade!!!

(I cannot do on my system, because after I should reinstall all!!!)

ok... this is the log of update-manager -d and /var/log/dist-upgrade

Hope this is a dependencies-bug related!!!

Looks like dpkg errors on libtiff4-dev on the upgrade:

(Lettura del database ... 99165 file e directory attualmente installati.)
Mi preparo a sostituire libtiff4-dev 3.8.2-7ubuntu3 (con .../libtiff4-dev_3.8.2-10_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: errore processando /var/cache/apt/archives/libtiff4-dev_3.8.2-10_i386.deb (--unpack):
 non c'è nessuno script nella nuova versione del pacchetto - lascio perdere

this causes a bunch of followup errors.

I strongly suspect this a duplicate of #243830 that got fixed recently. So a new test would be very welcome.
