install updates button does check packages.

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

It appears that recently on Ubuntu 8.04 that this package update notifier broke, because when i bring up the main update dialog the install updates button seems to always check the updates instead of installing new updates.
to get a idea on what's installed... here's a quick output of dpkg -l | grep update to show what's installed.

ii language-pack-en 1:8.04+20080415 translation updates for language English
ii language-pack-gnome-en 1:8.04+20080415 GNOME translation updates for language Engli
ii update-inetd 4.27-0.6 inetd.conf updater
ii update-manager 1:0.87.24 GNOME application that manages apt updates

Thanks for your bugreport.

Could you please open a terminal window and run "update-manager" there and then click on "Install updates" and paste the output of the terminal into this bugreport?
