kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 won't upgrade

Bug #228330 reported by galtthedestroyer on 2008-05-08
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
update-manager (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

kubuntu 7.10

version upgrade:
while "setting new software channels" I got this error message:

Failed to fetch http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/Release Unable to find expected entry commercial/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)

I expected to upgrade to kubuntu 8.04
instead the upgrade manager put things back the way they were.

I DID install KDE4 beta through instructions found on an official ubuntu website. after the upgrade manager had this exact problem the first time, I followed instructions to remove kde4. the upgrade manager still has this problem.

The commercial repository was renamed to partner, either disabling the commercial repository or renaming it to partner should allow you to upgrade.
