do-release-upgrade fails during upgrade from gutsy to hardy on xubuntu

Xubuntu fails to upgrade from terminal or from update-manager because of a package problem. I have attached the apt.log to this report.

I have the same issue. After fresh install of Xubuntu 7.1, immediate upgrade to 8.04 failed with the message

"Could not calculate the upgrade

A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade." etc.

Machine is Sony Viao PGC962C laptop

Attached are log files.
