LTS upgrade "cannot calculate upgrade"

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I decided I would upgrade from 6.06 to 8.04 and followed the
instructions, running

  gksu "update-manager -d"

But it failed, complaining that it could not calculate the upgrade
and telling me to lodge a bug report along with the files in
/var/log/dist-upgrade. So that is what I am doing now.

Running lsb_release -rd yields:

Description: Ubuntu 6.06.2 LTS
Release: 6.06

Running apt-cache policy update-manager yields:

update-manager:
  Installed: 0.42.2ubuntu22.2
  Candidate: 0.42.2ubuntu22.2
  Version table:
 *** 0.42.2ubuntu22.2 0
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I will attach the required files from /var/log/dist-upgrade as a gzipped tar.

Let me know if I can do anything else to help.

Thanks for the logs.

It turns out that this is a problem in the libnfsidmap1/2 priority. As a workaround, you can remove nfs-common and upgrade and reinstall it again.
