Bug Description

Not possible to upgrade if ubuntu.com off-line because of release notes file.

Upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy w. Kubuntu, KDE 3.5.9.

The upgrade with Adept & the upgrade tool fails because ubuntu.com is overloaded and the updater cannot fetch the file http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/dist-upgrader-all/current/ReleaseAnnouncement

The actual upgrade files are downloaded from a local server but this file from Ubuntu.com. So if Ubuntu.com is down/slow/something one cannot upgrade.

I think this file should be mirrored as well as all other files.

Thanks for reporting this bug. From what I can see, it appears that the ReleaseAnnouncement is now mirrored on all of the Ubuntu mirrors.

To verify this, go to:
http://XX.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/dist-upgrader-all/current/ReleaseAnnouncement
(where XX is the two digit country code of the mirrror).

Once the page loads, you should see the Hardy release announcement. If there is a specific mirror that does not include this file, that mirror might be out of sync with the main Ubuntu mirror. However, out of the handful of mirrors that I tested, all of them contained the ReleaseAnnouncement file. As a result, I am setting the status of this bug report to 'Fix Released'.

Changed in update-manager:
status: New → Fix Released

Hi!

From what I remember it's been on mirrors for a while (though I might be wrong) - but does the update-manager know to load it from there and not from ubuntu.com?
