version update failed 7.10 to 8.04 RC

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I received the following error on 3 different attempts to upgrade version 7.10 to 8.04 RC on 4-22-2008

Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy-security/Release Unable to find expected entry web/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Failed to fetch http://mx.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/Release Unable to find expected entry web/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Failed to fetch http://mx.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy-updates/Release Unable to find expected entry web/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)

Thanks for reporting this bug. Those error messages look like a problem with the repository servers. Often this type of problem resolves itself when the servers are updated. The best thing is probably to try again in a day or so. If the problem still exists let us know and we can look a little deeper. If the problem is resolved please let us know anyway so we can close this report

Looks like that some people have a 'web' repository defined in /etc/apt/sources.list.

So removing the word 'web' from the rows that have the addresses shown above should solve this.

Still it's unclear where does this come from..

Problem solved, yes, but the reason for the problem is unclear -> should not be closed yet, I think.
