Update manager 'Installing updates' does not show that user-interaction is required

Bug Description

Using 'update-manager' to install updates, the dialogue 'Installing Updates...'
pops up (the one with the scrollbar).

However, if user-interaction is required in the terminal to deal with a
config-file diff change, then there is no way in which the user is alerted. The
process just appears ''to have just stopped''.

If progress is not proceeding, the 'Terminal' drop down should be automatically
expanded.

Preferably the user should also be notified with a pulsing gnome-bar that
interaction is required to proceed.

This bug occurs with installing any package that has a provided config script
different to the already installed one.

For instance, the latest 'readahead' in Breezy.

Thanks for your bugreport.

I can't reproduce the problem here. If I install e.g. readahead I get a "Replace
configuration file '..'" dialog. Do you run the latest version of
update-manager/synapitc and apt from breezy? Synaptic should also open the
terminal widget automatically after 60sec of inactivity on the terminal. This
dosn't happen for you too?

Cheers,
 Michael

I spotted this when flicking back to synaptic/update-manager and spotting that
nothing was happening. I do not know how long it had been sitting idle---if it
was less than 60 seconds then then 60 second time out wouldn't have kicked in.

No, I didn't receive a select/override files dialogue. I don't know what one of
these looks like since I've never seen one... I've been trying to use the GUI
tools when testing but everytime so far that I've answered a configuration-file
question it has been via the in-window VTE terminal (IIRC).

I'm happy to mark this "Can't Reproduce" and close it if/until somebody sees the
same again.

If your version of apt/synapitc are up-to-date (breezy) I wonder if it has maybe
opened the dialog on a different workspace? Did you switched workspaces during
the upgrade?

Yes, mvo, everything is latest Breezy.

I don't /think/ I did any workspace switching (Used it once in the last week for
some GIMPing). I don't /think/ I had Multihead running at the time but that is
a possibility too. When the next updates come through I'll manually change a
config file and see whether I can reproduce it.

This bug is still observable when upgrading from 7.04 to 8.04. The specific package triggering that is CUPS, with an HP PSC750 printer connected on the USB bus. The configurator asks for confirmation (just using enter works) with a prompt like the following : "-->".

(Sorry I do not have any clearer details as my box is already updated now...)
