Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Today I got a dialog asking to do a "partial upgrade" -- upgrading udev, grub, and initramfs, but when I started it, the first thing it did was to remove mail-notification, for no reason as far as I can tell, I installed it again after and it works fine.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Could you please attach the log files from /var/log/dist-upgrade so we can try to figure out why this happened. Also what version of ubuntu are you using?

From /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log

Investigating mail-notification
Package mail-notification has broken dep on libbonoboui2-0
  Considering libbonoboui2-0 348 as a solution to mail-notification 0
  Removing mail-notification rather than change libbonoboui2-0

I am using Hardy. When I install the package again it doesn't complain about any broken dependencies and works fine.

Thanks for your bugreport.

This is a leftover in the update-manager quirks handler, fixed in bzr.

This bug was fixed in the package update-manager - 1:0.87.18

update-manager (1:0.87.18) hardy; urgency=low

  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeCache.py:
    - remove mail-notificaton, gnome-translate from hardy
      quirks list (LP: #215690)
  * UpdateManager/DistUpgradeFetcher.py:
    - use sensible gksu prompt when asking for release
      upgrade (LP: #161888)
