Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I am using Kubuntu 7.10, with the 2.6.22-14-generic kernel. I am dual booting Kubuntu along with Widows XP on my HP dv5020us laptop, and just recently upgraded via dvd from Feisty. While attempting to upgrade to the new 8.04 Beta, following the internet instructions on this page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades/Kubuntu, I got "Upgrade Tool Crashed", along with instructions to file a bug report here.

What I expected: to upgrade over the internet.
What happened: upgrade crashed.

I have attatched update_crash.log, which contains the following:
/etc/lsb-release
/var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log, and
/var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log

I am fairly new to linux, and this will be the first bug reported. I hope I have included any information needed. If not, please let me know what information I will need to get. Thanks to the developers for your work. You are far more skilled than I am.

After hitting Close on the window, having finished the report, I tried to open Add/Remove Programs from the Kmenu, and got a window with the following: Another process is using the packaging systme database (probably some other Adept application or apt-get or aptitude). It asked me if I would like it to attemp to fix the problem, I clicked yes.

Then I got:
The application Adept Installer (adept_installer) crashed and caused the signal 6 (SIGABRT)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
Can you please provide the output of running "sudo dpkg --configure -a" in a terminal?

Thanks in advance.
