Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I'm using Ubuntu 7.10.
When I start the update-manager, it gives me an error and suggests to report this bug.
It says to send the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Is there alse a file named main.log in /var/log/dist-upgrade? If there is could you please attach that one as well. It may provide more information to help find the cause of this bug.

Sorry for all the questions. Was there a specific error message when the problem occurred? If so could you tell us what it was. Finally, did this occur when installing regular updates or when trying to upgrade from 7.10 to hardy.

Thanks for the information.

First of all, sorry for my english.
I started Update Manager and it said me that there were about 650 updates to
do!
Also it warned me that there were some errors, so it was able to do only a
Partial update,
but when it starts to download, it shows me a dialog. In that dialog it
suggests me to
report a bug, so I report the message on that dialog.

Some days ago, I had other problems, Ubuntu did some of the above updates
and after that, it didn't
start again. So I had to reinstall all, now all works fine.

The last thing that I installed on my Ubuntu was "Start up Manager", and I
tried to change the splah screen
for boot, I don't know if it's related.

Bye,
  Alessandro

Rastaxe,

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately there is not enough information here to diagnose the cause of the problem. I am therefore closing this bug report. Thanks for taking the time to report it and please continue to report any further bugs you may find.

I'm encountering the same problem trying to upgrade from gutsy to hardy (beta). Setting status to 'incomplete', I'm going attaching log files and more info.

I'm trying to upgrade my ubuntu from Gutsy to Hardy. Mine has ubuntu-studio packages installed.

First, I've updated the current distro, then proceeded for the distro-upgrade. (update-manager --devel-release)

(sorry for the scattered posts & attachments)

During 'update-manager --devel-release' there were 2 warning/error msgs.

1. "Third Party Sources Disabled". It disabled some 3rdparty sources from my sources.lst
2. Can't Install 'ubuntu-desktop' (screenshot attached)

I've attached the 4 log files from /var/log/dist-upgrade. (There's one more - term.log, but it's empty)

Hi,

Checking my log files I found there's some war between ubuntu-sounds and ubuntustudio-sounds.

================================
Investigating ubuntu-desktop
Package ubuntu-desktop has broken dep on ubuntu-sounds
  Considering ubuntu-sounds 1 as a solution to ubuntu-desktop 9999
  Re-Instated ubuntu-sounds
Investigating ubuntustudio-sounds
Package ubuntustudio-sounds has broken dep on ubuntu-sounds
  Considering ubuntu-sounds 1 as a solution to ubuntustudio-sounds 2
Added ubuntu-sounds to the remove list
Fixing ubuntustudio-sounds via keep of ubuntu-sounds
Investigating ubuntu-desktop

I checked synaptics. Ubuntu-sounds - not installed. Ubuntustudio-sounds - installed.

I uninstalled ubuntustudio-sounds and tried the upgrade again. It's working now :)
