If there are more security updates available I want them, but since this is the current LTS release, I should not require ESM to receive them.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for contacting us.

This is "ESM for Applications" and it is different from plain ESM. It is a new offer that extends security coverage to Universe packages. It is free for up to 5 machines and it is a 10 year offer, where it runs in parallel the 5 years of the LTS, plus 5 years during ESM period. You can read more about it here: https://ubuntu.com/security/esm and here https://ubuntu.com/pro

Also all the ESM offers were renamed to Ubuntu Pro, where Ubuntu Pro (Infra-Only) is the normal ESM and Ubuntu Pro is ESM for Applications. Ubuntu Pro also gives you access to other security offers such as Livepatch and security certifications.

I hope this clarifies a bit

Sounds like you are intentionally leaving apps insecure even for current
apps, perhaps time for a distro change.

Universe packages were never supported by Canonical as they are community maintained, even ESM only covered Main packages.
This is an attempt to provide better coverage by extending it to Universe.

Ok, if I want to take advantage of this for five computers free, how do
I do this? And can I do this without turning the kernel hot patch on because
I run my own customized kernels?

You can do it from here: https://ubuntu.com/pro by clicking on Register in "Free for personal use"

You then will enable what you want via the `pro` command line command.
Yes, if you don't want livepatch you just let it disabled, same for fips and certifications.

Ok this is NOT for personal use, though I guess I could take advantage of
that on my personal machine which is also running Ubuntu, this would be for use
on two mail servers and a web server (business).

Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -> About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

1) The release was listed ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 6.1.5 x86_64)
2) It's irrelevant in this case.
3) I had a question, why am I getting messages about ESM when I am on a current supported release.
