Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-manager
Update-manager should check to see if there's an Internet connection before doing anything.
I don't have an Internet connection. When I first log on with my laptop, my whole system chugs along for a minute or two because update-manager is looking for updates. While my system is almost completely unresponsive, I have the free time to admire the update-manager's "working" icon sitting next to the the network-manager's "yup, you still can't afford an Internet connection" icon, side-by-side in the top-right of my screen.
Can someone look into this?
(I'm running Hardy, on a Dell Csixforty laptop. [Sorry, Hardy has caused the "six" key, my left ctrl key, and the minus/equals keys to stop working on my machine.])
Ben,
this seems like a reasonable suggestion. I will add it to the wishlist. Just for future reference, which version of update-manager are you using?
