When getting the lates update, update fails with authentication error

Using Ubuntu Hardy Heron on amd x86_64 HP dv8000 laptop
When notified of updates, click on update icon, update starts then fails with authentication error:Error authenticating some packages

It was not possible to authenticate some packages. This may be a transient network problem. You may want to try again later. See below for a list of unauthenticated packages.

I have tried many times to get the partial upgrade but always ends with this error.
