Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for taking an interest in this bug.
  Or maybe its housecleaning. :)
In my attempt to fix/debug this problem, the original files weren't
kept, so it can't be reproduced. In general, the problem was in
the /var/lib/dpkg available/status files ( I don't remember which)
was changed by the package manager, but then was a problem for the
package manager on a subsequent run. On that (old) computer, I've
disable any dpkg stuff, it is stable and does what it needs.
On newer releases, I haven't seen the issue, so have forgotten about
it.
You can too, if you like.

Take care, Toby.

Kind of spring cleaning indeed ;) But some old reports are still relevant so it's worth doing it. Anyway I'm closing this report because it lacks the information we need to investigate the problem.

Don't hesitate to submit bug reports in the future. Thanks again!
