Huge stack of credential dialogs when switching user

Bug Description

Steps to reproduce (not 100% sure of this, but has happened multiple times):

1) Have two user accounts
2) Login to desktop
3) Put the laptop to sleep etc for many hours
4) Login as a different user

What happens:

A dialog asking credentials for updates is opened. After accepting or canceling the dialog a new one is immediately opened (or it already was behind the topmost dialog). Sometimes you need to click cancel 50 times before the dialogs stop appearing. This also pauses the desktop fade in animation and the animation proceeds gradually on each dialog.

This did not happen on 18.04 LTS.

I'll try to record a video of this, but it doesn't always happen or depends on how long there has been between the user switch.

I now captured a video after the PC had been untouched for the night. In the video I have switched the user and I needed to click Cancel around 10 times to get rid of the credential dialogs.

Also for some reason it didn't accept the password. I tried two times with the recording cell phone on my other hand so it's possible I typed it incorrectly.

Still happened in Ubuntu 19.10.

I switched user and I got the dialog that asked my password to update repositories. However, it didn't accept my password. By clicking cancel ~20-30 times the dialog finally faded away.

I don't know what would cause this. Next time it happens please run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and then attach the resulting file here.

Ok, I now managed to get a journalctl log of this.

Same thing again after switching the user in the morning: the credentials dialog on black background didn't accept my password and I had to click around 50 times cancel to get rid of it.

Something like this in the log:

Thanks.

Those repeating errors might be related to the main problem, although it's never certain.

At this stage I would ask you to report the problem to upstream at:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues

However it might be more helpful to wait until Ubuntu 20.04 is released and you have tried that. Then report the bug if it still occurs there.

Once you have reported a new issue upstream please tell us the issue ID here.

affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) → gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
