Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I have just done a clean install of Hardy Heron Alpha 3 and there are 85 updates available.

When clicking 'Install Updates' from within the Update Manager a menu pops up:

"Not all updates can be installed
Run a partial upgrade, to install as many updates as possible."

So I select 'Partial Upgrade' and the loading bar comes up "Preparing the upgrade"...

Then after a few seconds the following error appears:

"Could not calculate the upgrade

A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport."

I have managed to repeat this problem without getting any further with installing the updates, any help would be appreciated.

I've managed to get the updates installed, by clicking close on the 'Run a partial upgrade' menu then clicking on 'Install Updates' again.

Now there are more updates and I'm back to getting the original problem again, but this time I can't click close on it and 'Install Updates'.

Anybody else having this problem?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I get the same error message when I select Partial Upgrade, however when I Close the window and select Install Updates it works fine.

I'll attach some screenshots.

Same here. After closing the first message and installing quite a lot of updates, the message comes up again, and about 30 updates (Distribution updates) or so are just gray and cannot be installed.

I get the same thing in the logs about openoffice and such, but doing an upgrade from the command line for me shows a problem with libflickrnet. This is after a fresh Hardy alpha 3 install. Perhaps the libflickrnet package issue is a completely different problem, or perhaps that is what is preventing the upgrade via the GUI too. The apt.log doesn't mention that package though.
