Bug Description
I have used 14.04 and 1604, but raise this report because of the popularity of this issue to the new user.
see how many duplicate question are there.
- auto-update activated by default which don't show any notification or indicator while updating the package list equivalent to run `apt update`.
- security update downloaded/
So it may take a while before it free the lock by itself. The top solution is to delete the lock. Which is not right as it may and corrupting DPKG files while running two operations simultanously.
The best solution i can think of is to let the user know about such background running operation:
- either by showing the indicator (which currently not visible while downloading lists)
- or sending a low priority notification message, about running update.
I like more indicator option, it seems more convenient to give user ability to stop it too.

Too old, and it is only valid for low bandwidth users like myself. Specially, in VM and machines that I rarely use when boot up with updat, apt get locked up for a while.
