Bug Description

Hi,

The update manager stopped at a 45-50% step while it said preparing for gedit install. For about an hour. Gedit was open that time. When I noticed I closed it, but no response from update manager. So after a while I have xkilled its 2 windows. And tried restart it. No package found to update, however it should have been remained 30 package.

Then I logoffed/restarted the PC.

After the restart> after logging in on gdm> no gnome, no gnome safe mode, no xclient command file works in the session menu> only xterminal mode works.
Other window managers do not start> only mouse cursor shows up and that's all. I assume x-window-manager is the faulty application, here is the process list following gdm

 6741 ? 00:00:00 gdm
 6822 tty9 00:00:01 Xorg
 6844 ? 00:00:00 gnome-keyring-d
 6847 ? 00:00:00 x-window-manage
 6883 ? 00:00:00 ssh-agent
 7198 tty2 00:00:00 ps

System> 7.10 Gutsy

From xterminal, i can start run>
gnome-panel&x-window-manager&
So that's how i can report :)
