should deal better with invalid sources.list on initial cache.update() (was: Error During Update to 7.10)

Bug #156161 reported by J-P on 2007-10-23
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
update-manager (Ubuntu)
Michael Vogt

Bug Description

While trying to install upgrade from update manager. This error occurred;

"A problem occurred during the update. This is usually some sort of network problem, please check your network connection and retry.

[Failed to fetch 301 Moved Permanently
Failed to fetch 301 Moved Permanently]"

I am guessing this means I cannot upgrade (there are no network problems i'm aware of and it fetched everything else without a problem..)? I apologize if this isn't a bug; but I'd appreciate some help if you can.

Work around:

sudo wget -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

Thank you for your efforts so far. I tried the work around you suggested Albert, I still get the same error though...

Thanks for your bugreport.

The 3rd party source is no longer available, you need to update your /etc/apt/sources.list to continue with the upgrade.
