Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I manually upgraded my Kubuntu from 7.04 to 7.10 some time ago via sources.lst and apt-get dist-upgrade (due to problems with suspend) before I'd learned of update manager.

Now that Gutsy has had it's official release, every time adept updater runs I'm told I'm due a version upgrade. It gets as far as telling me that a bunch of packages are now obsoleted and I then get a screen saying:

"There are no upgrades available for your system. The upgrade will now be cancelled"

The updater then rolls back any changes. Is there actually anything that the update procedure will do that hasn't been done already? If so, is there any way to do it manually? If not, how do I convince adept that I'm already running the current version?

I also get the message that I can upgrade to gutsy every time I run the adept manager. I even installed gutsy a second time and got three new packages. But adept is still convinced that I haven't upgraded to gutsy.

I don't know if the problem is connected to this, but I already upgraded manually before RC was out.

Greetings Stephan

Me too, I receive the upgrade message for upgrade to Gutsy when running the adept manager. However, I have already Gutsy installed. When I click the upgrade message it fetches the upgrade information, but then stops and shows the messeage, that there are no updates available for my system (as I already run gutsy).

A fix would be nice, at it is annoying. Nevertheless Gutsy is the best version for me now!! :-)

Yet another same bug. Slightly different origin. Upgraded to Gutsy Beta. Adept detects upgrade available. Upgraded to full release Gutsy, but received the above error messages.

Pretty much the same here, except that I didn't upgrade from Feisty, I installed directly from the 7.10 CD. So I don't think it has anything to do with how you have upgraded your distribution in the past. I also did a fresh install in another computer and it has the same problem.

Not fixed for me. No update to adept seems available - 2.1.3ubuntu17 is my current version. Both adept manager and updater suggest a version upgrade is available, which of course fails. I'm running a fresh install of Gutsy (release version).

same problem here: upgraded using update manager but had download problems because of which I had to kill update manager and restart it. Went through installation but had problems due to one corrupted package (Java!). Resolved that on the command line and restarted the update manager. adept manager still nags me with distribution upgrade, albeit the upgrader later notices that the system IS upgraded.

Todays updates didn't fix the problem. Still there.

Sigh.

Updated to the new version, it now says it is 2.1.3ubuntu17.1 and the problem seems to be fixed.

After I upgraded from Gnome Desktop(Ubuntu),Now in my KDE,after update,I was suggested, there is a distribution upgrade to 7.10! And when I followed prompts, adept hung up saying you are already upto date.

Today adept reported updates available. All were adept packages only.(seven of them).Again after update, above thing repeated. The bug may still be there.

Parameshwara, try again. While adept is updating you're still running the old version of adept which has the bug. Thus, after updating, the distribution update bug still exists. If you quit and restart adept manager or adept updater, the problem will no longer exist as you'll be running the updated version.

same problem here - after upgrading my kubuntu feisty manually to gutsy by installing update-manager, my adept complained that my kubuntu would not be up-to date but stopped while updating

Ok how exactly did any of you manage to update when the update manager itself will not work?

Console apt-get update? If so which program are you updating? I'm getting security errors when I try to run apt-get install or apt-get update no matter which package I try to update/install.

Security errors seems not to be quite the same issue as the one explained here.

The resolutions in our case appears when adept-updater shows an update for adept_updater itself.
But if you do get errors, you obiously will not be able to follow the same rule as we did.

Good luck.
