Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I've upgraded from 6.10 to 7.04, then from 7.04 to 7.10 RC.
I think that this bug is related to #148881 because they seem to be same kinds of failure but on another package dependency.

ErrorMessage: ErrorMessage: SystemError in cache.commit(): E:Couldn't configure pre-depend cupsys for cups-pdf, probably a dependency cycle.

I've been hit by the same bug. In my case the upgrade-manager stopped due to an installed package pixeldemo which does not belong to the ubuntu-distribution.
$ tail -f /var/log/dist-upgrade/term.log
gutsy: Fatal IO error 9 (Bad file descriptor) on X server :0.0.
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of pixeldemo:
 pixeldemo depends on libc6 (>= 2.6-1); however:
  Version of libc6 on system is 2.5-0ubuntu14.
 pixeldemo depends on libfreetype6 (>= 2.3.5); however:
  Version of libfreetype6 on system is 2.2.1-5ubuntu1.1.
 pixeldemo depends on zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-1); however:
  Version of zlib1g on system is 1:1.2.3-13ubuntu4.
dpkg: error processing pixeldemo (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

But there are also a huge amount of connect errors to the server:

This didn't work, but I hope, this will:

Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

Stay tuned :)

I had this same problem, resetting back to the Feisty repositories then removing the cups-pdf package enabled me to upgrade. I'm guessing there's a dependency problem in the Gutsy version of cups-pdf.

Yes, dpkg -r cups-pdf helped.
