Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I just tried to upgrade my notebook from feisty to gutsy and the update-manager came with the error message

"Could not calculate the upgrade" ..."Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.

Alright, here we are. I'll attach the files in the next step since the bug server doesn't provide an attachment entry here...

I also confirm this problem going from vanilla Feisty to Gutsy Beta and attach requested files.

I am also having this problem with Feisty to Gutsy (7.10) on the x86_64 platform.

I'm also seeing this problem. Generic edgy, update-manager to feisty ran fine, reboot, update-manager gives this error. apt-get update/dist-upgrade confirms system is up to date for feisty. do-release-upgrade fails with just an 'aborting' message after telling me which packages may not be supported in gutsy - didn't see any other errors.

I dug further into the update-manager bugs, and found one that wasn't related to package downloads. It had someone remove nfs-common and do the update, and since I had nfs-common on the machine (and it doesn't use NFS) I removed it. Now the update is downloading packages...

On the report I found, after the update rebooted it was hosed, though (apparent /etc/fstab issues), so we'll see what happens :-)

I got round this by upgrading using Synaptic. I assume this was an issue with an intermediate set of updates as I haven't seen this since the report.

Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.

My fault: it's no longer a duplicate of bug 46245

When running a development release of Ubuntu you will frequently receive messages when trying to run update-manager that it could not calculate the upgrade. This is expected and happens due to the amount of changes occuring in the repository.
