Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-manager
Having problems with the Update Manager, spanned from a botched installation of Brother Drivers.
The new package attempted to uninstall the existing drivers, which caused this error. Now Update Manager is inoperative.
When I tried to reinstall the Brother Drivers for this package mfc8420lpr-

I no longer need the Brother printers, so if the solution involves getting rid of all things Brother, that's okay by me.

The brother drivers looks really bad, you could try to run: dpkg/info/ mfc8420lpr. postrm
$ sudo rm /var/lib/
$ sudo apt-get remove mfc8500lpr mfc8420lpr
