Bug 622489 says this should be fixed but it isn't. (Also still happens on lucid according to https://lwn.net/Articles/550080/)

Is this still an issue for you? It's likely dependent on the package so it'd help to know what package it is crashing on. You could a print(pkgname) in the function get_maintenance_status around line 19 to see what package it is tripping over. Thanks in advance!

I reinstalled that system by now and haven't seen the issue again yet.
