ubuntu-release-upgrader is first indroduced with Ubuntu12.04.

Before that it was just the update-manager that must do all the job.

I changed the package for this.

There should also be a folder

/var/log/dist-upgrade

could you compress that folder and attach it here?

In fact that folder might be more important than the apoort procedure. You might be forced to call

gksu nautilus

because the folder is owned by root(may be also the same for firefox to upload).

Sorry for my first irritation.

I would like to help you but is very hard to me to remember the exact situation. Probably I had a lot of unusual packages installed on my system because I like to experiment (development, image & video editing).
I cannot remember and now is too late to verify because I use an other distro.

One thing is sure: the upgrade was from 12.04 to 12.10 and not from 10.04 to 10.10
