update-manager 1:0.167, Ubuntu Q
1. Launch Software Updater.
2. Wait for the updates check to complete.
3. Click to expand "Details of updates".
What you see: By default, the list is tall enough to show about 0.5 updates.

Okay, I'm working on this now! Should it be possible to shrink that list below the default size, or would you prefer we keep it as a minimum?
I'm linking a branch with just the latter solution: the update list has a minimum height of 250px. That fits 10 updates in the group-by- applications branch. (About five with the list in trunk). Here is a screenshot: http:// ubuntuone. com/1lh234wy2V7 IEdKyeSZ6P6
Another option is to change the default window height (which is a dconf key), still allowing the window to be smaller than that. That change isn't quite as simple, but I'm happy to include it if you'd prefer that. (It's already done, actually). It might be useful to have a larger default height as well as a particular minimum, just to make sure the list is never pointlessly small, but then the minimum for being useful might be a good default anyway.
