You may need to run the following:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package.

If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as "Confirmed"

Dear Mr. Salisbury,
thank you for the installation advice. The package is installed, but the problem
seems to need a more detailed description.
At first the update-manager tried to install the package. That was halted at
configuring grub. I terminated that process and the installation stepped
forward. At least there was a message that the installation of the package was
not successful. Then I installed the package by means of synaptic without any
faults.
I have noticed this behaviour for several months. A new linux-image could not
get installed by means of update-manager but it worked by means of apt-get on a
console or synaptic. I did not mention it before, because I had ubuntu 9.10
running and thought the fault was eliminated in younger releases. But now I did
an upgrade an find just the same under ubuntu 12.04.
So it is not the image-package but the update-manager, which may have a malfunction.
Best regards
Wolfgang Deinert

The problem may occur at the next image-update for I have noticed it under my old system ubuntu 9.10 either. The fault may to be found in the update-manager.
