OTA 8.5 Nexus 4 screen gestures from the left side aren't working

on OTA-8.5 my Nexus 4 isn't usable any more. The launcher can't be shown, the gestures from the left side won't work any longer. I completely reinstalled the phone and now it's the situation, that it stays on the info-screen how to use the phone: "Please swipe from the left": so i can't unblock the phone. Also the keyboard works incorrectly. Typing the password for Wifi network during setup, instead the letter a and the shift are typed letter s or y (german keyboard). Hey, if you reinstalled the phone it actually suggests it's a hardware issue... I can't view the video since it's private, but I've not heard anyone else mention that.

There is one bug that I remember from before, but we've not seen it in a long time - bug #1408263 - that could in theory explain your issues.

If you have adb access to the device, you can use (on your pc):

$ phablet-config edges-intro --disable

If that doesn't work for some reason, the same can be achieved by editing this file on the phone:

/var/lib/AccountsService/users/phablet

Edit the line that says "demo-edges=true" to say "demo-edges=false" and restart the phone.

Ultimately flashing Android could get you a confirmation if the hardware is still ok. You can also edit the width of the edge detection area (see ubuntu-phone ML thread [1] for pointers).

hi,

i've changed the video to public, now it should be viewable.
i also flashed android and there was no problem, i jused stock android 5.1 and also cyanogenmod 12.1, all worked well......
i flashed again with version 12 (dec.2014) so i'm able to unblock the phone. but right now, the launcher isn't shown at all, no reactions on left swipe
don't belive that editing the edge detection area will help.

ok, looks like a hardware issue. on rotated shell the launcher shows up as expected
