Bug Description

Happened this morning with Bq Aquarius (software version 20). The alarm went off, but it was impossible to acknowledge it as the view didn't respond to anything. I had to reboot the device.

Thank you for taking the time to report the bug. The dialog shown when an alarm is ringing is done by the unity shell and if it becomes unresponsive, then it has to do with the unity8 project which I have added to this bug report.

Changed in ubuntu-clock-app:
status: New → Invalid
no longer affects: ubuntu-clock-app

This suggests the shell was crashing, or in otherwise bad state. Can you see in /var/log/upstart/whoopsie.log whether a crash for unity8 was uploaded around the time the alarm rang, and post here the OOPS reported?

Otherwise, please see if there is a .crash file for unity8 in /var/crash and upload it here.

Unfortunately if you rebooted the crash might be incomplete (I understand why you did!) and will make it difficult for us to track down. Please let us know if you can reproduce the issue.

Yeah, well...I'd like to investigate that, but I haven't figured out how to connect to the device as it seems there's no phablet-shell on Ubuntu 14.04.

You can use adb, or install phablet-tools from the PPA¹.

Ok, I installed the stuff from the PPA. My device is now in the developer mode and I can browse its content via Nautilus. However, it's not seen by phablet-shell or adb. Is there's something else I should do?

Today this happened again so that the Battery low dialog(?) was active while alarm went off. The UI didn't respond to anything and the only thing I could do was to reboot.

Hi Jussi, sorry for the lack of activity in this bug report. We have fixed some crashers in the notification system (which is used for showing the alarm) and are confident that this will be fixed with OTA-4. If it happens again, please reopen the bug report.
